Students who enroll in elementary education are required to complete a second academic area of concentration. This course of study is a eighteen semester hour requirement in an academic discipline. English continues as the most popular second academic area of concentration for distance students. The majority of English second academic area concentration courses are offered by the community colleges and are integrated into the proposed schedule of coursework. WCU will send the additional two required courses to the community college campus.
Individuals with college degrees may enter the program to obtain a second degree in elementary education or licensure for teaching in elementary schools. Students with college degrees are not required to complete the second academic area of concentration requirements.
