Teacher Education Programs and Departments
Most teachers focus on a certain age or needs group, and so Western teachers prepare to work with a range of populations ranging from pre-school and kindergarten, elementary and middle grades, to secondary education. They can also receive specialized education to work with exceptional children or promote reading and literacy.

As a Western teacher-in-training, you’ll work with individual departments that serve the learners you’ll focus on. For example, if you wish to teach in a special subject area, you’ll work with Educational Leadership and Foundations to prepare for special subjects such as Music, Spanish, German, and Art, or secondary school teaching. The Human Services department will prepare you for a career in Counseling or Special Education.

Interested in helping younger children or in improving literacy? Elementary and Middle Grades Education will hone your skills with these groups. Western even offers distance education programs to suit your busy schedule.
