U.S. Department of the Interior (DOI)
The DOI is the nation's principal conservation agency. It protects America's treasures for future generations, provides access to its natural and cultural heritage, and conserves and protects fish and wildlife. Among its many agencies that manage the different aspects of natural resources is:

Bureau of Land Management
This Agency is responsible for managing 264 million acres of land, about one-eighth of the land in the US, and about 300 million additional acres of subsurface mineral resources. The Bureau is also responsible for wildfire management and suppression on 388 million acres.

Provides access to the EnviroLink library, and is a comprehensive resource for individuals, organizations and businesses working for social and environmental change.

Environmental Law Institute
The Environmental Law Institute is an independent research and education center.  Its mission is to work cooperatively with environmental professionals in government, industry, public interest groups, and the academia, for developing effective solutions to pressing environmental problems.

Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)
The EPA protects human health and safeguards the natural environment - air, water, and land - upon which life depends. Locate laws & regulations, publications, databases & software, projects & programs, and a variety of other resources at the EPA website.

Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS)
The NRCS assists owners of America's private land with conserving their soil, water, and other natural resources and the environment. Its Conservation Programs include Agricultural Management Assistance, Forestry Incentives Program, Soil and Water Conservation Assistance, Watershed Rehabilitation, and more.

World Resources Institute (WRI)
WRI is an environmental think tank that goes beyond research to find practical ways to protect the earth and to improve the lives of people.

Ecology and Society
Ecology and Society (formerly Conservation and Ecology) is an electronic, peer-reviewed scientific journal devoted to the rapid dissemination of current research. Content of the journal ranges from the applied to the theoretical.

National Parks Conservation Association Magazine
A bi-monthly magazine that includes feature articles about the national parks, park briefs, and vacation planning guides. The NPCA was created as the watchdog for the National Park Service and is dedicated to protecting the entire Park Service system.

Earthlink
A bimonthly current awareness newsletter produced by INFOTERRA/USA. EarthLink provides information on international environmental activities, publications, and news of interest to EPA staff and other environmental professionals.

Species in Parks - Flora & Fauna Databases
The Information Center of the Environment (of UC Davis) in conjunction with the National Park Service, has developed a preliminary database of vascular plant and vertebrate animal species within lands owned by the US National Park Service. This website enables you to interactively query the numerous flora and fauna databases contained within.

Forestry

American Forests
The oldest nonprofit conservation organization in the United States and a leading voice for trees in public policy debates in Washington DC. Contains information on urban forestry, forest policy, famous and historic trees, and "CITYgreen," which is a powerful GIS application for land-use planning and policy-making.

American Forest & Paper Association (AF&PA)
AF&PA s the national trade association of the forest, paper, and wood products industry. Its members includes manufacturers of over 80 percent of the paper, wood, and forest products in the United States.

American Tree Farm System
The mission of this organization is to promote the growing of renewable forest resources on private lands while protecting environmental benefits and increasing public understanding of all benefits of productive forestry.

National Association of State Foresters
The National Association of State Foresters is a non-profit organization that represents the directors of the State Forestry agencies from all fifty states, eight US territories, and the District of Columbia. The State Foresters provide management assistance and protection services for over two-thirds of the nation's forests.

North Carolina Forestry Association
The state's oldest conservation organization established in 1911. Offers a variety of educational programs and resources for forestry professionals and the general public.

Society of American Foresters (SAF)
The largest professional society for foresters in the world. The mission of SAF is to advance the science, education, technology, and practice of forestry.

Temperate Forest Foundation
Through public education, the Foundation helps people move toward the positive vision of living sustainably, with the successful integration of economic, ecological, and social needs. Its Eco-Link publications (most of which are in pdf format) are a great way to learn about forest ecosystems.

Tree Care Industry Association
This is a trade association of over 2700 commercial tree care firms and affiliated companies. It develops safety and education programs, standards of tree care practice, and management information for arboriculture firms around the world.

Bureau of Land Management (BLM) - U.S. Dept. of the Interior
The BLM manages 264 million surface acres of public lands located primarily in the 12 Western States, including Alaska. It also takes care of 300 million acres of below ground mineral estate located throughout the country.

Forest Service - U.S. Dept. of Agriculture
The Forest Service manages 191 acres of public lands in forests and grasslands, and helps people share and enjoy the forest while conserving the environment for generations yet to come. You can do a search of national grasslands or national forests by state or by region.

National Agricultural Library
Serves as a National Library of the United States and as the Library of the USDA.  It is a major international source for agriculture and related information.

North Carolina Division of Forest Resources
The NC Division of Forest Resources protects, manages, and conserves the forest resources of the state. It also offers classes and workshops to help citizens understand forests better.

North Carolina Cooperative Extension - Forest Resources
This NC State University site enables North Carolinians to make informed decisions concerning the management, enhancement, and enjoyment of their forest resources through research-based information and education. In cooperation with County Extension personnel, NCSU Extension Forestry offers educational opportunities via publications, workshops, videos, conferences, and field demonstrations.

ParkNet (National Park Service)
Learn about natural resources in the parks, and discover the histories behind structures and objects that are preserved and protected by the National Park Service.

Southern Research Station - USDA Forest Service
Located in Asheville North Carolina, it is part of the nation's largest forestry research organization. The scientists in this organization create the science and technology needed to sustain and enhance southern forest ecosystems and the benefits they provide. Also featured in this site are research publications, the annual report of the station, and several other topics of interest to foresters and the general public.

The UCWR is an organization of 90 universities in the Unites States and throughout the world.
