The TEI is intended to provide each student with professional supportive feedback concerning the student's application to teacher education. The student's interview performance should not normally prohibit admission to the Professional Education Sequence. However, each student must satisfactorily complete the TEI before admission.
Process:
1. Before or during the semester of application to the Professional Education Sequence, the student schedules the Teacher Education Interview (TEI) through the Teacher Education and Licensure Office. Times and dates are announced in EDCI 231 or BK 250 classes and printed on the current semester schedule of activities. An autobiography must be submitted via TaskStream before scheduling the interview
2. The TEI is scheduled for a 15-minute time period with a panel made up of at least two professional teacher education personnel.
Specific Standards
Outcomes:
There are usually two outcomes of the TEI:
1. The student receives a correspondence from the Associate Dean indicating that the interview has been satisfactorily completed.
2. The student receives a correspondence from the Associate Dean directing the student to contact his or her advisor for follow-up feedback. After the advisor notifies the Associate Dean that the student has completed the follow-up conference, the Associate Dean will notify the student that the TEI has been satisfactorily completed.
Tips for Students:
1. Dress professionally for the interview.
2. Arrive on time.
3. Use correct grammar.
4. Be prepared to discuss why you are interested in teaching, what experiences with children you have had, and what your career goals are. Other topics may be discussed, but these should help.
