Persons with a bachelor’s degree can have a non-degree program developed individually based on previous experience and education in the following areas: birth-kindergarten, elementary education, middle grades education, grades 6-9 (language arts, mathematics, science, and social sciences), secondary education, grades 9-12 (English, mathematics, comprehensive science, comprehensive social sciences), special subject education, grades K-12 (art, music, Spanish, physical education), English as a Second Language, gifted education*, reading*, and special education, grades K-12. Licensure-only programs lead to recommendation for an initial level “A” license. *requires a previous teaching license in another area

Criteria for admission include a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution, a GPA of at least 2.5 (2.75 for elementary and middle grades education), and an interview. Scores on the PPST are not required except those seeking a license in birth-kindergarten.

Licensure-only programs include required courses and other requirements such as Praxis II and are approved by the Professional Education Council. Licensure-only programs are signed by the student, department head or designee, and by the associate dean.

Required courses on licensure-only programs are at the undergraduate level. In some cases, graduate courses may substitute for the undergraduate courses. Students should consult advisors.
