WCU Public Policy Institute celebrates Constitution Day Sept. 17
9/5/2008 - Western Carolina University’s Public Policy Institute will sponsor a series of Constitution Day events on Wednesday, Sept. 17.
During the day, the PPI will give away 500 Constitutions on the A.K. Hinds University Center lawn. It also will create a podcast of interviews with WCU students about what the Constitution means to them, which will be posted on the PPI Web site.
WCU undergraduate students also are invited to participate in an essay contest, which asks “What has been the most important constitutional change in the U.S. election system, and why is this change important? What effects has this change had on the election system and society as a whole?”
Essay answers may examine any provision of the original Constitution, any amendment to the Constitution or any Supreme Court case interpreting the Constitution. Cash prizes will be awarded to the top three essays, and the deadline for submissions is 5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 14.
